Siena

Siena is a city with Etruscan origins, its medieval quarter is rich in palaces, churches and great works of art.

The famous Piazza del Campo forms the backdrop to the main events in Sienese life; this is where the famous Palio is held on 2 July in honour of the Madonna of Provengano and on 16 August in honour of the Virgin Mary, patron of Siena to whom the magnificent Duomo is dedicated.

Siena’s typical sweetmeats are the delicious Panforte and Ricciarelli biscuits.
